Gerald Gordon "Jed" Crane

Jed was born in Canada, the son of Fred and Kathleen Crane. The family moved to Oakland in 1922. He was a graduate of Oakland HS and UC Berkeley. At Cal he belonged to the Phi Delta Theta fraternity. He was a lifelong "Golden Bear".
He briefly attended the University of Alaska and enjoyed telling stories of working on the railroad, in a Fairbanks gold mine, and as a lumberjack.
In 1943 he married Dorothy Treichel, also from Oakland. They enjoyed life together for almost 74 years.
He served in the Army from 1942-1946 including duty in the Pacific. Postwar he had a 33 year career at Pacific Bell. He and Dorothy lived for many years in Rossmoor actively involved in golf, lawn bowling, bridge, and woodshop. Jed was a thirty year member of the Richmond Yacht Club and served as Commodore. They traveled extensively in Europe and Asia creating their own adventures and visiting friends they met through international sailing events.
Jed was predeceased by his sister Lois Matusek and her children Brett and Kay. He is survived by his wife Dorothy, his daughters Marilyn Morrish (Bob) and Nancy Crane, granddaughter Lynne Drake (Colin), great-grandson Bobby and his nieces Virginia Clover, Sheila Baraze, Sharn Bleeker and Lynda Matusek.
Jed was a man who loved his family, enjoyed life, told jokes that made him laugh before he could get to the punch line, and was a good friend to all who knew him.
