Franklyn D. "Del" Helm
Resident of Eugene, OR
Beloved husband, devoted father, grandfather, uncle and friend, Del, 82, spent his life helping others through acts of skill and service. A native of Montrose, CO, he was raised in the SF Bay Area. Graduate of Oakland High and College of the Pacific, where he was Archania fraternity president and met Mary Lee Bowman, his wife of 61 years. U.S. Army veteran. Real estate executive at Lucky Stores for nearly 30 years. Active in church and community, served as Chairman of the Fremont Planning Commission in the 1970s. Proudest of his family and the many home and life improvement projects he completed for them. Survived by his wife, children Marcy (Mark Smallen), Bob (Daina McAllister) and Mary Jane (John Rogers), and five grandchildren, Billy, David, Zak, Molly, and Sheridan. Preceded in death by sister Nonnie Williams and grandsons Alec and Brett Thomas.
A memorial service will be held at Lake Merritt United Methodist Church in Oakland at 1 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Del Helm Fund of the Oakland Methodist Foundation, which supports youth programs like those that helped Del become the servant leader he was.
