Wayne Hall Lee, younger brother of Jean Lee Jang '66, was born in Oakland on February 02, 1951. After graduation from OHS he majored in Electrical Engineering at UC Berkeley, graduating in 1972. His engineering career in Southern California spanned 32 years. During that period he also prepared tax returns for clients of H and R Block starting in 1977 when that company first contracted with Sears Roebuck in Buena Park. During the 20 years after the 1998 tax season Wayne worked five years in San Jose and the latter fifteen in Southern Orange County. He became an accomplished three office leader for six tax seasons. He began full time at H and R starting in 2004.
Wayne's athletic prowess began sometime after schooling as he completed four marathons in 1992 and ten overall. He earned a second degree Black Belt in Shotokan Karate of America in 1977. His other athletic interest was being a huge fan of the Oakland Raiders until he became disillusioned because of the violence and traumatic brain injuries its players suffered. He then redirected his enthusiasm to become a big fan of the Golden State Warriors. The quieter contemplative side of Wayne added another dimension to his character as he became an avid gardener.
On November 24, 2017, the day after Thanksgiving, Wayne unexpectedly passed away. His life was celebrated with services in Southern California on 12/08/17 and again in his final resting place in Oakland on 12/14/17. He will be remembered as an intelligent, caring person with a gentle spirit.
