Elder Jimmy Copes, Jr. Resident of Dublin Elder Jimmy was born in Oakland on August 6, 1954 to Jimmie and Hazel Copes. He confessed Christ at an early age getting his training from Bishop Mack Eastman, Bishop Ray Mack and Bishop Robert-Richard Carr. Before his demise, he served as Assistant Pastor to Bishop Joseph Carlton Jenkins at Mingleton Temple COGIC in Oakland, Ca. He was inspirational and a breath of life to anyone who needed a spiritual lift.
He graduated from Oakland High School and afterwards, enrolled in Laney College to study business management. As an entrepreneur, starting his own janitorial company proved to be his niche after experimenting with other business ventures. He mentored and employed dozens of young men over the years, giving them an opportunity to succeed on their own.
He married the beautiful and talented Dorcas Trotter in September, 1983 and from this union was born two sons, Blake and Justin. He also was lovingly called Dad by Lenwood Lewis, whom he mentored from his adolescent years and treated as a loving son.
Elder Copes departed this life on Monday, January 21, 2013 at California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco, Ca. His parents, three brothers and one sister preceded him in death. He leaves to mourn his passing: His wife, Dorcas; his sons Blake Copes, Justin Copes and Lenwood (Lenny) Lewis; His God child, David Lewis; four sisters - Barbara, Gwen, Cynthia and Sophia: three brothers Jerry, Mark and Richard Wayne; a host of uncles, aunts, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other relatives and friends.
